Safety at Chattr

Chattr is an anonymous feed for UK university students. This page explains who can join, how reporting and blocking work, what we don’t do, and how to reach us.

Who can join

Chattr is for UK university students aged 18 or over.

You sign in with a UK mobile number and a code we text to it, then give your university email address. New accounts need an address ending in .ac.uk.

We email a link to that address. If you don’t confirm it within 10 days, you lose access to the account.

When you sign up you confirm you’re 18 or over, and we record that you did. We don’t ask for ID.

What other students see

Posts and comments carry no name. Other students don’t see your phone number or email address.

You see and post in your own university’s feed.

Chattr’s admins can see which account wrote something, for example to act on a report. Every one of those lookups is logged.

Reporting

Posts and comments have a Report option. Pick a reason and it goes to our moderation team.

We aim to act on reports within 24 hours.

If you can’t use the app, email report@chattr.uk

Blocking

Tap Block on a post or comment. It takes effect straight away, and the other person isn’t told.

Their posts and comments stop appearing in your feed, in search and under posts, and neither of you can send the other a direct message.

You can undo a block in Settings → Blocked users.

The content filter

Posts, poll options, comments and direct messages go through an automatic keyword filter before they are published. Some are blocked outright; others are sent to a moderator to look at.

What we don’t do

We don’t ask for your location. The app has no location permission.

Photos can hold location details saved by your camera, so check your camera’s settings before you post one.

We don’t sell your data.

Advertising cookies stay off unless you accept them, and you can turn them off again in Settings.

Your account

You can download your data or delete your account in Settings. Deletion has a 30-day cooling-off period, then it goes ahead.

Posts and comments that were reported, or removed by moderators, are kept as moderation records.
